Which shampoo brands are worth the extra money?
More than half of shampoo bars sold in the U.S. are not made from natural ingredients, according to data collected by The Washington Post.
That includes some of the most popular brands like Ogyx and Dove, which are often touted as “natural” but are often made from chemicals and pesticides, according the Post.
Other brands, like Body Shop, and Bobbi Brown, which has been dubbed the “world’s most profitable hair-care company” are not, according The Post.
And shampoo bars aren’t the only product to have trouble attracting consumers.
A 2014 survey from Consumer Reports found that nearly half of consumers surveyed said they would stop using a shampoo bar if it were made from synthetic ingredients.
A 2016 survey from the company found that the percentage of people who said they don’t use shampoo at all has tripled over the past decade.
In addition, the American Chemical Society has found that more than 80% of shampoo is made from organic ingredients, including beeswax, which the nonprofit classifies as “a natural and essential component of hair care.”
